چکیده

In medical and surgery applications, the implant design is the key. Any mismatch in the implant design results in the implant failure as well as psychological stress and pain to the patient. Measuring and inspecting the geometrical implant design with the reference model is very important, to ensure the proper fitting and safety of the patient. The purpose of this study is to perform the evaluation between two geometrical custom implant design techniquesmirroring and anatomical design, commonly used in the reconstruction of the mandible implants. The results of the three-dimensional (3D) deviation analyses demonstrate that the average deviation of the anatomical design model is in the range of -0.0841 to 0.1167 mm which is less compared to mirroring technique model with a range of -0.4456 to 0.4322 mm. The two dimensional (2D) geometrical surface deviation illustrates that the mirror reconstruction technique has more deviation (2.05 mm) from the reference mandible model when compared to the anatomical reconstruction technique (1.22 mm).

Fully 3-dimensional digitally planned reconstruction of a mandible with a free vascularized fibula and immediate placement of an implant-supported prosthetic construction.

BACKGROUND Reconstruction of craniofacial defects becomes complex when dental implants are included for functional rehabilitation. We describe a fully 3-dimensional (3D) digitally planned reconstruction of a mandible and immediate prosthetic loading with a fibula graft in a 2-step surgical approach. METHODS A 54-year-old man had development of osteoradionecrosis of the mandible. The resection...

Customized Cranioplasty Implants Using Three-Dimensional Printers and Polymethyl-Methacrylate Casting

OBJECTIVE The prefabrication of customized cranioplastic implants has been introduced to overcome the difficulties of intra-operative implant molding. The authors present a new technique, which consists of the prefabrication of implant molds using three-dimensional (3D) printers and polymethyl-methacrylate (PMMA) casting. METHODS A total of 16 patients with large skull defects (>100 cm(2)) un...

Virtual surgical planning and 3D printing in prosthetic orbital reconstruction with percutaneous implants: a technical case report

Osseointegrated titanium implants to the cranial skeleton for retention of facial prostheses have proven to be a reliable replacement for adhesive systems. However, improper placement of the implants can jeopardize prosthetic outcomes, and long-term success of an implant-retained prosthesis. Three-dimensional (3D) computer imaging, virtual planning, and 3D printing have become accepted componen...
